What is coaching?
Coaching is a step by step method for achieving goals and is a great way to achieve change if you don’t want or need therapy. The process involves a conversation between you and your coach where they’ll explore your desired outcomes through powerful questions. They’ll listen to your objectives, the change you seek and any challenges or obstacles that have prevented you from achieving your goals in the past.
During the coaching session you’ll be challenged in a supportive way in order to stimulate your thinking and ideas.Your coach won’t give you advice and whilst you may explore personal issues with them, this will only be in order to help you move towards your goals, not to solve any problems in your personal life or history. Coaching is always goal driven and future focused.
Once you are clear about the route forward, you’ll agree action steps with your coach that you will take between sessions. You’ll be expected to write down your goals and planned tasks. This element of accountability helps you to ‘own’ the process, to remain focused and increases motivation and commitment.
Coaching is available in blocks of four or six 1 hour sessions. Typically sessions are held at the centre, but if this is tricky for you, your coach may arrange to work with you by phone or Skype.
